The Fianna Fail TD Ms Beverly Cooper-Flynn has settled a High Court action for damages taken against her by a man who claimed he sustained injuries after being struck by a car driven by the TD near Clones, Co Monaghan, some four years ago.

The action was brought by a Monaghan County Council road labourer, Mr Richard Carleton (54), of Clonagore, Clones. Mr Carleton alleged that a car driven by Ms Cooper-Flynn struck him while he was engaged in road work, causing serious injuries for which he was hospitalised for a fortnight.

Shortly before the two-day action was due to begin yesterday, Mr James Nugent SC, for Mr Carleton, told Mr Justice Johnson that the action had been settled and could be struck out.
