THE publication of a new edition of Cre na Cille by Mairti O Cadhain was plunged into controversy last night, when relative of the deceased writer formal dissociated themselves from it.

The novel has been out of print for many years, and the new edition has been eagerly awaited Irish language circles. The edition is published by Sairsea O Marcaigh and is due to be launched today in the National Library in Dublin.

A statement in Irish from Iontaobhas Ui Chadhain, a trust set up by O Cadhain's relative said they had no confidence in the new edition. The statement listed a number of allegations concerning the manner in which the new edition was edited are published.

The trust stressed it was finding fault with the editor the edition, the late Dr Tomas Bhaldraithe, nor with Caoilfhionn Nic Phaidin, read the first proof.

Mr Caimhin O Marcaigh, Sairseal O Marcaigh, said night he was "hurt" by the decision. He declined to any further comment. The would be launched as plan later today, he said.
