Dental mental:We're big fans of money-saving alternatives, but we were a bit disturbed to read that nearly 10 per cent of people in the UK – where dental work is much cheaper – have tried DIY dentistry to save money. A survey for Which? magazine found that 8 per cent of people have attacked their own teeth, with a quarter of those attempting to remove a tooth with pliers. Some 30 per cent tried to whiten their own teeth using household products while 12 per cent attempted to take a tooth out using a string tied to a door handle.
