Construction wages rise over 7%

Average weekly earnings in the construction sector rose over 7 per cent to €824

Average weekly earnings in the construction sector rose over 7 per cent to €824.35 in the 12 months between September 2006 and September 2007, according to figures released by the Central Statistics Office this morning.

The figures also show that there was a increase of half an hour in the average length of the working week to 44.5 hours.

For unskilled labourers weekly earnings rose by over 10 per cent to €830 a week, with the length of the working week rising by almost an hour to 47.3 hours.

Skilled tradesmen saw a 4.6 per cent rise in weekly earnings to €925.02 over the same period. 43.6 to 44.8.
