An investment consortium headed former stockbroker John Quinn has agreed to buy retail group Champion Sports for an estimated €60 million.

The consortium - PCP ONE Limited - said it was purchasing the entire business interests of the group - which includes 17 retail outlets.

Mr Quinn the acquisition presents "a significant opportunity for the further development and expansion of the Champion Sports Group".

The PCP ONE consortium includes a small number of Irish investors, including financier Bernard Somers.

Champion Sports' current management team will remain in place after the deal which is subject to Competition Authority approval.
