The Commonwealth said today it was lifting its suspension of Pakistan from the 53-member organisation, saying the country had made progress on democratic reforms.

The Commonwealth also said it expected President Pervez Musharraf to fulfil his pledge to stand down as chief of the army by the end of this year and the association would monitor progress on that move.
