Sixth-year students at St Flannan's College, Ennis, joined in mourning with the family of 18-year-old Amerley Amarteifio last night following the teenage girl's death at the weekend as a result of an asthmatic attack.

According to the president of St Flannan's, Father Jim Jones, the student from Shannon suffered the attack on Friday evening, hours after she had sat one of her mock Leaving Certificate exams. Father Jones confirmed that the college will not open today as a mark of respect to Amerley.
