Algiers - The leader of one of the two main Algerian Muslim guerrilla groups still fighting the government has been killed by fellow rebels opposed to his peace talks with the authorities, an Algiers newspaper said yesterday.

Hassan Hattab, chief of the Da'wa wal Djihad (Appeal and Struggle) faction, was killed last week by his comrades-in-arms after a quarrel with three other leaders in his movement, the daily Saout al-Ahrar said, quoting "reliable sources".
