Customs officials have seized €70,000 worth of cocaine which was found in a man’s shoes as he passed through Dublin airport.

They intercepted the South African national on Monday after he landed at the airport from Johannesburg.

On examining his footwear, Customs officers discovered 1kg of cocaine concealed in the soles of the footwear. The man was arrested and handed over to Ballymun Garda drug squad.

He appeared in Dublin District Court at the Bridewell on Monday and was remanded in custody to appear at Cloverhill Court tomorrow.
