Voters should demand that Dail candidates resolve "to maintain our precious neutrality and to reject association with any alliance committed to the possession and use of nuclear weapons," the Irish Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament has said.

Irish CND said the posting of an Irish officer to NATO headquarters in Belgium was "the most flagrant move to date" in moving the Republic into the Partnership for Peace and eventually into NATO.
