GAZA - President Clinton wrote to reassure Palestinian President Yasser Arafat that the US position on Israeli Palestinian peacemaking was unchanged since the Israeli elections, a Palestinian official said yesterday. "The letter was very important, very comforting and very supportive", Mr Arafat's adviser Mr Nabil Abu Rdainah said.

Meanwhile, Israel said yesterday it had asked the International Olympic Committee not to let the Palestinian delegation march at the Atlanta games this week under a banner reading "Palestine".
