Galway City Hall is to remain closed until mid-week as investigations continue into the cause of Friday's explosion in the building, writes LORNA SIGGINS.

Investigations are focusing on the water heating systems in the building on College Road.

No one was injured in the incident. This evening’s city council meeting will be held in the Galway County Council offices at Prospect Hill.

A limited counter service will be available from this morning at the council’s transport and infrastructure office close to the old Grammar School on College Road, but members of the public are asked to use it only if necessary.

The council’s customer service number of 091 536400 is working as normal, the local authority said.
