A fire at an abandoned building has caused major disruption to commuters in Dublin city centre this evening.

The blaze broke out at Film House on Middle Abbey Street some time before 5.30pm. The boarded up building is located at the edge of a site cleared for development which is near Liffey Street.

At least four units of the fire brigade arrived at the blaze after 5.30pm along with gardaí.

The street has been cordoned off by gardaí between Liffey Street and Millennium Walkway.

Luas red line services are stopped between Smithfield and Connolly Station. However, the service has continued running between Smithfield and Tallaght.

The blaze covered much of the city centre in smoke and AA Roadwatch is warning of poor visibility for motorists in the area.

There are no reports of any injuries in the blaze.

Gardaí are investigating all possible causes of the fire.
