Circus members have gone to court to settle a dispute over their similar titles.

The International Russian Cossack Circus Ltd, trading as The International Russian Circus (IRC), applied for an injunction to stop the show currently running at Shaw's Bridge, Belfast, from using the name "The Russian Circus".

Barrister Michael Still, for the IRC, told the High Court in Belfast that The Russian Circus had formerly traded as Courtney Brothers Circus.

When it changed its name in September 1994, the advertising posters were altered to resemble closely those used by the IRC which had been operating since February 1994.

Mr Justice Campbell said he would give judgment today.
