News that a multi screen cinema in Dun Laoghaire is being built on a larger scale than that proposed in its planning permission provoked consternation at Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council last night.

Councillors heard that the cinema, part of the new shopping centre at the former Dominican Convent site, is larger than envisaged, with greater seating capacity, and will require the use of the existing library road car park to facilitate additional customers.

Mr Colm Breathnach said councillors had changed their zoning to facilitate the original plan "on the basis of what was in front of us. The developers of this centre lobbied me very heavily when it came to planning permission, and I will not easily change my decision".
