Cigarettes worth €1.9m seized in Dublin

Customs officers have seized contraband cigarettes with an estimated street value of €1.9 million in Dublin Port.

Customs officers have seized contraband cigarettes with an estimated street value of €1.9 million in Dublin Port.

The five million cigarettes wee found in a 40-foot container that had arrived from Turkey, according to a Revenue spokesman.

The contents of the container were described as 'Bedlinen' but the M1 brand cigarettes wee found a result of profiling and an x-ray scan.

Some 23 million cigarettes have been seized in Dublin Port so far in 2007.
