The Presbyterian Church in Ireland yesterday said changes discussed in a British Department of Health and Social Services consultation paper on casinos and gaming would "further erode the religious and social stability of the country".

The Rev Robin Greer said the church was particularly concerned that the British government was being "strongly influenced by economic and business considerations" at the expense of moral issues.
