The annual auction of Irish art at Christie’s in London achieved sales totalling just over €2.5 million this afternoon.
The top lot was a painting by Nathaniel Hone, Double portrait of Lieutenant-General the Hon. Philip Sherard and Captain William Tiffin at the Battle of Brücke-Mühle,which made £294,500 (€374,000).
The sale offered 168 lots representing art from the 18th through to the 20th century.
International director of Irish Art at Christie’s Bernard Williams said the auction had attracted "animated bidding".
He added he was particularly pleased to have negotiated the private sale, prior to the auction, of the Harry Clarke stained glass window Unhappy Judasto the National Museum of Ireland.
