Paris - President Jacques Chirac pledged yesterday to keep cracking down on Basque guerrillas after the killing of a veteran Spanish columnist by suspected ETA members. Mr Chirac, in a message to the Spanish Prime Minister, said Mr Jose Luis Lopez de Lacalle (62) was "assassinated because he worked for peace and against terrorism".
