Taipei - The first cabinet minister from communist China to set foot in rival Taiwan arrived yesterday and said the unprecedented visit would open the door for new co-operation between Taipei and Beijing.

"I am very pleased to visit the motherland's precious island," the Science and Technology Minister, Mr Zhu Lilan, said.
