BEIJING - Beijing yesterday berated the United States over Hong Kong and human rights, accusing Washington of Cold War thinking and saying ignorant US congressmen were trying to meddle in China's internal affairs.
In a double diplomatic barrage, the State Council, or cabinet, and a foreign ministry spokesman both accused the US of using spurious concerns to interfere in issues that concerned China alone.
