Two girls under the age of 10 robbed a 92-year-old pensioner after forcing their way into her Co Down home, the PSNI said today.

The children pushed past the elderly victim when she opened the door of her house on Chapel Street, Newry.

The girls stole money and sentimental items from her handbag. Police said that although the woman was uninjured she was left greatly shocked.

They appealed for witnesses of the burglary, which occurred at around 5.30pm yesterday, to come forward. One of the girls was wearing a pink anorak and the other, a blue one.

Elderly people living in the Newry area have been urged to be vigilant.
