Two children killed when their caravan caught fire at a halting site in Dublin yesterday have been officially named.

Joseph McGinley (1) and his brother Michael who was due to celebrate his 3rd birthday today died in the fire at Old Castle Park, Nangor Road, Clondalkin shortly after 2pm.

Their bodies were taken to Tallaght Hospital for post mortem. There were no other injuries.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated. It remains unclear whether a heater was responsible for the fire, which is believed to have destroyed the caravan in minutes.

"They didn't stand a chance," a garda quoted in today's Irish Timessaid.
