Two schoolchildren escaped injury today after a car crashed head-on into a bus outside Mullingar, Co Westmeath today.

The incident happened during the morning run with pupils on their way to Sonnagh National School.

The crash happened near the townland of Bun Brosna just off the main Longford-Mullingar road when the car came round a bend in the road and collided head-on with the bus.

Gardai said none of the pupils were injured and it is understood parents were called to the scene and took their children home.

The driver of the car suffered only minor injuries while the bus driver was not injured but badly shaken. The bus was hired for the school run from a local contractor.
