London - A five-year-old girl was killed at a Spanish hotel when a statue of a goddess weighing half a tonne fell on top of her on the last day of her family's holiday.

Laura Roberts from Featherstone, west Yorkshire, died on Thursday night at the Puente Real Hotel in Torremolinos. She had been waving goodbye to her grandmother in the hotel's play area when the six-foot statue toppled over and struck her head.
