The chief executive of the VHI Vincent Sheridan received a total financial package of €378,000 in the year to last February, the company confirmed yesterday.

The State-owned private health insurance company said yesterday that Mr Sheridan was the unnamed health sector executive whose salary was revealed by Tánaiste and Minister for Health Mary Harney in answer to a parliamentary question on Tuesday.

The chief executive post at Aer Lingus enjoys a salary of over €500,000 as does that of the ESB.

The governor of the Central Bank has a financial package of just under €300,000.

The chief executive of An Post and the director general of RTÉ have financial packages of more than €200,000.
