URUS MARTAN DISTRICT, Russia - Chechnya's new rebel leader pledged yesterday to avenge his dead predecessor, Dzhokhar Dudayev, and said he would press on with the region's drive for independence.
Mr Zelimkhan Yandarbiyev, speaking at his first news conference at a secret location in Chechnya, also said there would be no peace talks with Moscow until it was clear who, was responsible for Dudayev's death.
