Charged with cannabis offence

A man last night appeared before a special sitting of Galway District Court as part of an investigation into organised crime.

A man last night appeared before a special sitting of Galway District Court as part of an investigation into organised crime.

Mark Dowling (20) of Castle Park, Ballybane, Galway, appeared before a special sitting of the court.

Mr Dowling is charged that, between July 23rd last year and June 1st of this year in Galway, knowing that a criminal organisation existed, he participated in an activity for the purpose of enhancing the ability of the organisation to commit a serious offence, namely the possession of cannabis with intent to supply.

His solicitor consented to a remand in custody to Galway District Court on June 9th.
