The Department of Education has admitted that a leaked EU report on early school leavers in Ireland had identified a number of weaknesses in the Youthreach programme.
However, it said these were being addressed by the Minister: a full certification system for students was being established, 450 more Youthreach places were being provided, as well as "progression opportunities for those who complete Youthreach programmes and wish to continue their educational development."
