Chancellor takes weighty decision

BONN - Germany's portly Chancellor, Dr Helmut Kohl, proved his love for horses yesterday by declining the ride which was his by rights after he was made an honorary member of a traditional riflemen's society. Dr Kohl eyed his girth, looked at the slender animal and decided to keep both feet on the ground. "I'm afraid I would get in trouble with the animal rights people," he said.
