The Ceide Fields Visitor Centre, Ballycastle, Ballina, Co Mayo, above, has been awarded the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland's gold medal, the State's premier architectural award. The building was designed by the architectural service of the Office of Public Works.

Three of the 10 shortlisted entries also received commendations. They are: Civic Offices, Dublin Corporation (Scott, Tallon and Walker, architects); Blackwood Golf Centre, Crawfordsburn, Co Down (O'Donnell and Tuomey ), and Cork RTC Library (de Blacam and Meagher).
