LONDON - Mr Cecil Lewis, a founder of the BBC and a pioneer airman in the first World War, has died at the age of 98.
Mr Lewis won the Military Cross and wrote Sagittarius Rising, an account of the war's air battles. After the war, he became flying instructor to the Chinese government and helped to form the Chinese air force.
He returned to Britain in 1922 and became one of four founders of the BBC. In 1926, he left the BBC for film and theatre and in 1938 won an Oscar for his adaptation of Shaw's Pygmalion.
