Several cars were hijacked and set alight in nationalist areas of Lurgan and Armagh city last night. The unrest is believed to be linked to the arrest of a leading republican, who was remanded in custody after being accused of causing grievous bodily harm during crowd trouble in Lurgan at the weekend.

At least three roads in Armagh city had to be closed because of burning cars. Police said two vehicles were hijacked in Lurgan, where a stretch of railway line had to be cordoned off as well because of a bomb alert.
