The cargo ship SeeBrisethat ran aground in Kinsale early yesterday has been towed into the harbour.

Storm conditions forced the 2,000-ton Belize-registered cargo ship onto rocks at 6.00 a.m. yesterday.

Its crew of seven sailors were still on board this morning when two tugs brought it safely into harbour at about 7 a.m.

The tugs- the Oyster Bankand The Falcon- were assisted by the Kinsale Inshore Lifeboat.

Kinsale Harbour Master Phil Devitte said surveyors are assessing the damage to ensure it can sail to a dockyard in Cork.

There was no risk of pollution from the vessel, he said.  A slight oil spillage occured yesterday, but it was from an empty tank, he added.
