An Eastern Health Board caretaker, who allowed an accomplice to steal over £7,000 worth of equipment, must carry out 200 hours of community service or face six months in jail.

Frank Barry (48), of St Brigid's Drive, Artane, Dublin, pleaded guilty to handling 16 computer parts worth £7,155 at Dr Steeven's Hospital between November, 1995, and May, 1996.

Det Garda Paul Donohoe told Dublin District Court the defendant had come under the influence of a man currently facing serious charges and lost his job as a result.
