EDINBURGH - Cardinal Thomas Winning (71), leader of Scotland's Catholics, yesterday urged his flock to make abortion and the right to life the most important issues in the election.

In a four page election message to be distributed to churches on Easter Sunday, the cardinal and six other Scottish bishops - state that "the first priority for Christians in the forthcoming election is to uphold the right to life".
