At least seven people were killed today when a car ploughed into a crowd waiting at a taxi stand in Kyoto, western Japan.

At least seven people were killed today when a car ploughed into a crowd waiting at a taxi stand in Kyoto, western Japan.

Shingo Fujizaki, the male driver (30) of the car, was among those who died, according to a police official in Kyoto. At least 16 people were involved in the incident, he said.

The car ran a stop light before hitting the crowd, Kyodo News reported, citing a witness. The police official said he was not aware of the details regarding how the crash occurred.
