A car dealership has been fined €20,000 by a court for breaches of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act following an accident which resulted in a staff member having half his leg amputated after a car display ramp crushed his foot.

Rice Roddy Ltd, Newry Road, Dundalk, Co Louth, pleaded guilty to failing to ensure the health and safety of an employee, and failing to identify and assess hazards and risks. In July 2009, sales executive Garry Hoey (32) was co-ordinating moving the ramp, when it fell on his foot.
