A collaborative effort to prevent fires in the homes of the elderly was launched by the National Safety Council yesterday. The campaign will involve public health nurses, home helpers, carers and voluntary groups advising older people on fire hazards and fire safety practices. Last year more than half of those killed in domestic fires were over 65.
