The Maritime Institute of "Ireland has called for the rapid implementation of the new Merchant Shipping Act which extends the powers of the Commissioners of Irish Lights.
The Merchant Shipping (Commissioners of Irish Lights) Bill, 1997, empowers Irish Lights to erect the Loran C navigation mast and run radio based navigation aids.
