A cable fault left some 2,600 electricity customers without power in south Dublin this evening.

The outage happened at about 7.30pm and effected areas were Loughlinsown, Killiney and Ballybrack.

ESB crews isolated the fault and by 9.40pm had restored power to all but 315 customers.

The engineers found the fault at the Laurel Avenue substation and shifted customers to an alternative supply network while they carried out repair works.

The ESB expects to have power restored to all customers tonight.
