Bishop Peter Barrett, Church of Ireland Bishop of Cashel and Ossory, will take over as president of the Irish Council of Churches (ICC) for the next two years at the council's annual meeting in the Cooke Centenary Church, Belfast, tomorrow.

The meeting will welcome the Antiochian Orthodox Church into membership. This will add to the family of four other Orthodox member-churches (Coptic, Greek, Russian, and Romanian) which minister to the spiritual and other needs of new immigrants in Ireland.

A private motion to be proposed by the Rev Gordon Gray calls on member-churches to become centres of welcome and hospitality to immigrant and ethnic minority communities.
