President of the European Parliament Mr Pat Cox today opened a new regional distribution centre for C&C Logistics at Little Island in Cork.

The new 72,000-square-foot depot is one of three Regional Distribution Centres (RDCs) operated by C&C Logistics and employs 80 staff.

The other two RDCs are located in Dublin and Belfast.  C&C Logistics also operates a number of local depots and in total employs 380 staff.

The new centre will operate a Warehouse Management System, whereby products arriving into the warehouse will be scanned with the system allocating specific storage locations.

This will ensure compliance with EU regulations for product traceability due to come into force in January 2005.

The new RDC represents a seven-figure investment in the Cork area
