The Minister of State for Development Co-operation, Ms Joan Burton, has approved a grant of £550,000 for UN agencies operating in the Great Lakes regions of Africa and in particular Eastern Zaire.

The grant brings to £12 million the total assistance given by the Government to the region in three years. The latest allocation will go towards alleviating the refugee problem.
