RANGOON - The Burmese military regime said yesterday it had sentenced a member of Dr Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy (NLD) to four years in jail on a charge of falsifying documents. Mr Myo Khin (39) was arrested on May 12th and charged with fraudulently altering a family registration list and citizen registration card.

The regime claimed the arrest and sentence had nothing to do with an NLD party gathering planned for today to celebrate the anniversary of the NLD's landslide victory in the 1990 election, which was not recognised by the ruling State Law and Order Restoration Council.
