A Budget Travel franchisee with branches in the midlands has gone into liquidation, it was announced today.

A Budget Travel franchisee with branches in the midlands has gone into liquidation, it was announced today.

The Portlaoise Travel Group had premises in Tullamore, Kilkenny, Carlow and Portlaoise , the Comission for Aviation Regulation (CAR) said.

It was in business for 20 years and other has traded under the names Kilbride Travel, Kilkenny Travel, Carlow Travel, LSA Travel, Tullamore Travel, Athy Travel , Flight Centre, Flightline and Travelbound, CAR said.

All customers who booked a budget travel holiday with the travel group “are financially protected and their holiday reservations will naturally be honoured," Budget Travel said yesterday.

The Comission for Aviation Regulation (CAR) advised all customers with a current bookings to contact the relevant airline, ferry company or travel provider “to establish the status of their booking”.

The company held a bond with CAR and any customers who purchased overseas travel from the company can make a claim to the regulator for a refund.

Budget Travel said all of its franchisees are bonded.
