Bangkok - Thai police yesterday announced the arrest of a Briton for the rape and murder of a British backpacker, Ms Kirsty Jones, in the northern city of Chiang Mai.

Mr Andrew Gill (32), already detained on charges of overstaying his visa, has been arrested and charged with conspiring with others to commit rape and murder, Col Prasit Thamdee, chief of police in Chiang Mai, said.
