LONDON More than 158,000 cases of "mad cow disease" have been confirmed in UK farms since November 1986, according to the latest figures.
In a Lords written reply last night, Lord Lucas of Crudwell, for the Government, said the cases had occurred at 34,211 farms. There were 1,656 cases in Northern Ireland.
