Britain is checking whether two unidentified bodies passed by Iraqi authorities to UK officials in Iraq yesterday may be those of two men taken hostage in May 2007, Foreign Secretary David Miliband said today.

"We do not yet have confirmation of who they are. Forensic examinations are under way to establish their identities and the causes of death," he said.

"Our immediate thoughts are with the families of five Britons taken hostage in Baghdad in May 2007," he said.

The Britons, a computer instructor Peter Moore and his four bodyguards, were seized by a Shi'ite militant group from inside an Iraqi Finance Ministry building in a raid in Baghdad.
