Brides Ms Brenda Dunne (26), from Kilcurry, Co Louth, and Ms Kirsty Kieran, of Blackrock, Co Louth, took time out on their special days to case their votes wearing their wedding dresses.

"I always vote," said Ms Dunne as she went to the polling booth in St Patrick's National School. After voting, she married Mr Austin

Burns (34), from Magheracloon, Co Monaghan, in St Bridget's Church, Kilcurry.

Ms Kieran also voted on her wedding day at her old school, Blackrock National School. She then headed to St Oliver Plunkett's Church for her marriage ceremony at 3 p.m. She is a neighbour of the Fianna Fail chief whip, Mr Dermot Ahern, but, like Brenda, remained tight-lipped about her political favourite.
